About Nickie Godfrey

“Getting in touch with you and your strengths.”

A therapist in private practice for over thirty years, Naomi "Nickie" Godfrey, M.A., L.M.F.T. earned her B.A. at UCLA, and her M.A. at California State University, Northridge (CSUN). She is a certified gestalt therapist; holds advanced certification in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM); is certificated in chemical dependency studies; and more recently was certified in Thought Field Therapy (TFT)-ALGO level training.

In addition to helping individuals, couples, and groups, Nickie works with corporate Human Resources departments presenting workshops, conducting psychological first aid or critical incident stress management (CISM) sessions, and consulting with management and staff. She was one of the initial therapists hired by Los Angeles Unified Schools to help counsel faculty, staff and students after the 1994 Northridge earthquake. Subsequently she was hired at her local high school where she continued to work for the next 14 years serving on the school's crisis team and providing clinical services for complex and demanding crisis situations.

Nickie is frequently called upon to give presentations and workshops to share her knowledge and expertise with her colleagues and the community. Click here to see to see a selection of Nickie’s presentations.

Nickie and several respected colleagues developed a psychoeducational program called “PARENTING ADULT CHILDREN – IT AIN’T LIKE WHEN THEY WERE little”. Parents are assisted to manage the often unexpected and overwhelming challenges of parenting adult children and to help them have more satisfying relationships with one another. Therapy is also available for more problematic situations and is offered individually, conjointly or in groups.

Associations, Certifications

In her free time, Nickie enjoys painting with acrylics. The artwork on this page is an example of her work. She also designs fine jewelry. A lifetime lover of choral music, Nickie currently sings with the Los Angeles Zimryah Chorale. Her interests in the arts spawned her interests in gestalt therapy, which she finds to be an especially creative approach. Nickie frequently uses art or music as a therapeutic technique – as a different way of communicating and enabling clients to reach deeper and and more healing emotional levels.
